Yes, of course. There is not needing for a faster cpu or a better chipset
to read a disk and write a diskimage. Beware you still need a place where
you create the diskimage, like RAM: or an Harddisk!

You need 880 kb only for the image, then you have to transfer this image
to a PC.... it means you need to write on floppy or CDROM (I found the
rewritable invaluable for such file transfers).

880 kb doesn't fit on a 720 cross-dos (o similia) disk; maybe you have to
lha it! (and then find on the net, look in aminet at lha.exe or lhant#?
for msdos)

Or if you have access to the net via a500...

Or you can null-modem cable your pc with your amiga...

you have to cut it and solder another one in. Not trciky, but if you are not
*completely* sure of doing it, contactt Analogic or your local user group -
there is normally someone who does something like this.

A4000 motherboard takes 4*4mb and 1*2mb - that's it.
For more memory, you need an accelerator with memory sockets on it or a RAM
expansion card - sorry :)

Are you sure the clock battery just doesn't need charging?  If you've left
the A4k on for 24 hours and yet the battery still doesn't keep the time,
then it sounds like it needs changing.  The battery is soldered into place
and you'd need to desolder it before you could just pull it out.  However,
make sure you know where you can get a replacement from - contact RamJam in
Reading, UK as I think they're able to ship a replacement to you ...

That is possible.  However it is also possible that your PIV isn't seated
correctly.  Take everything to bits, and clean the connectors on teh card
before reassembling everything - that should fix it.  If not, contact
VillageTronic to see if your card does actually need upgrading ...

Nope, it can only handle 16Mb FAST RAM maximum.  the 4*4Mb SIMMs max it
out!  If you want more memory you'll either have to get a Zorro card
capable of adding memory, or a processor card ...

I don't like the idea of charging for it, to be honest. I do this kind

Make sure that the picture is in the same directory as your guide first.

@{"button" link "picture.iff/main" 0}

Will show the file in the current Multiview window, just click on retrace to
get back to where you were.

@{"button" system "Multiview picture.iff"}

Will show the picture in another Multiview window. Here you could use any
other viewer program but it assumes the person viewing it has the same viewer
in the same path as you do. This way you can guarantee it will work.

@{"button" rxs "ADDRESS DOPUS.1 command show 'DOpus5:Help/picture.iff'"}

An example use of Arexx using the show command of Opus to display the picture.

I'll do it for you right now.

There is no USB for the Amiga right now, but there are two or three
companies working on it. However, it will almost certainly be limited to
Zorro III-based computers from what these developers have told me because
of the fact that you need the speed that Zorro III provides along with the
DMA and bus mastering facilities. Even wehn the hardware gets done, it's
not the end of the story since then drivers need to be made for the
hardware you attach to the port.

ISA has always existed on Zorro-based Amigas, but unfortunately Commodore
left out a single wire that would mean you could access ISA all the time
and restricted to only be able to do it through a bridgeboard. Duh...

Obviously not since it's never appeared anywhere, neither has it been done
on later revisions of Zorro (like the 3000 or 4000). However, the BoXeR has
had it done...

Great... Now all we need is for BoXeR to be released... and Drivers... and
for people to start producing ISA cards again (Intel's 810, 820 and 840
chipsets no longer support ISA, as it's being phased out)...

would have working ISA slots, but since it now doesn't have them, I guess

Personally, I never noticed that this group doesn't have advertising;

Just a little bit to add to the above,i have a American book called Amiga
Desktop Video Guide published in 1989 and no mention of Multimedia.
Lo and behold 2 years later in 1991 another American book i have comes out
titled The Desktop Studio:Multimedia with the Amiga!.

Did you know that Commodore had a "Director of MultiMedia"?

A short passage from the 2nd book:

                         What is MultiMedia?

Like many industry buzz words,the term "MultiMedia" is running amok in the
computer world while marketing executives at companies like Apple try to

In my case, I dont have to bother with scrollers much; two of the
frames have so little (static) content they are fully visible even on
an Amiga PAL screen (plus the scrolling is forced off), and the third
one is for varying content, so the actual width doesnt matter.

But it has PCI slots instead. Whoopee ;)

BTW have they said anything about your review board yet? Mick says
that the power-up was being done last week and this week, and the
Amiga-ify stage will take about 1 month and a bit, so I assume you'll
get it all then, right - in the middle of April - and then we'll get the
things at around May/June time.

Pre-loading seems to be a must if you want IBrowse to do the roll-over th=
ing. Sure you loose time on load but it does respond quicker. It's just w=
hat is important to you.

Well JS is not that diffcult. However it would be easier if all browsers =
would treat it the same. Also with JS it could be possible to write multi=
-point menus including change-over graphics in just a few lines whereas H=
TML code would require a repeat of the code for every menu-item present. =
Since computers used to be usefull in doing the repeating stuff for you I=
 thought (and still think) it's a good way to go. However, in order to ge=
t the site on-line for the moment I've choosen for a more conservative co=
de with the loads of repeating HTML code. But I'll keep looking at it for=
 a future update. And yes, you can use those fancy HTML-editor but the pr=
oblem with that is, is that you don't see what you're doing. Somehow, I d=
on't know why, I feel like I have to be in charge of what code is generat=
ed.

Hello,

while the JS-article on AF134 was very enlightening, I need some more
info...

How do I replace the current frame with a specific HTML file? I would
think

  onLoad="if (top == self) top.location.replace(INDEX.HTM); return
true;"

would work, but I am getting a "Document not found" error. Should I be
using the full URL instead (thus making it impossible to test the code
offline)?

Also, the said INDEX.HTM contains nothing but a frameset. I would like
to show the originating page in one of the frames, but can I pass
information like this through JavaScript? For example, in the form of a
variable? Can I pass ANY variables between pages, for that matter?

The point is, I am upgrading a set of pages to use frames, and those
with old links would be getting a nice and automatic redirection into
the frameset with the page they were looking for in the main frame.
Even a "no, you cant do that" answer would be appreciated, as this
will greatly affect my work.

I was reading AF #126 and in the PD pages was a little proggie called FACTS
2.7 (Finest Amiga Clock Time Synchroniser) which updates your clock
automatically when you log on to the net. Download from the aminet
"comm/tcp/facts.lha", hope it helps.

I would have built the Yamaha sound project if the Yamaha hardware
hadn`t been so pricey. The infra red controller made interesting
reading but wasn`t particularly practical. One of the things I bought
CU for was its bias towards hardware hacks, from the editorial in the
last issue this had nothing to do with its close which came from high
command.

Anybody know if it's possible to start a business website using the
amiga? If it is, how about a tutorial, Ben?
I'd like people to be able to click on items that go in a basket, then
they pay by credit card. As far as I've found out so far, it looks as
though I'd have to have a PC with 200 of software at the cheapest.
Any ideas anyone?

Simple Solution: Learn Perl, it's free. Find a webserver which allows you
to use perl, then create a shopping basket script, and I'm pretty sure
you can get credit card validation perl scripts from various script archives
around the net. Being able to use people's credit card details is a different
matter of course.

And perl is a really great language :)

You`re dead right, the majority of people are not. However, if you take
a look at the amount of electronics mags in any major shop you will see
that there are enough people who are interested in both electroics and
HI FI to keep the circulation of quite a few mags going.

Maplins even charge for their catalogue - the hobby is so popular.

Quite a few of these people probably own unused Amigas.
